March Events and Festivals in Pennsylvania

This March, Pennsylvania has events and festivals of epic proportions taking place across the state! Whether you’re learning about the history of maple syrup at a 1600s-era sugarhouse, celebrating Pennsylvania’s birthday on Charter Day, or seeing green at some of the best St. Patrick’s Day parades in the nation, there’s plenty to do as the final days of winter wind down.

1. Maple Sugaring Weekends at Parker Dam State Park

Parker Dam State Park

Maple syrup is celebrated all month long during Maple Sugaring Weekends at Parker Dam State Park. Here, you'll learn the history behind maple sugaring, how to identify maple trees in winter, choosing the perfect tree for tapping, and how to make your own luscious maple syrup. While a few lucky guests get to tap a tree and receive other hands-on training, all guests receive free samples of the sweet concoction.

2. Somerset County Maple Weekend Taste & Tour

Somerset County Maple Weekend Taste and Tour

Explore 16 sugar camps at the Somerset County Maple Weekend Taste & Tour. Learn about maple syrup production and sample maple products from those who know maple best, including a few whose families have been in the business for several generations.

3. Loch's Maple Open House

Loch's Maple Open House

What started as a modest open house twenty years ago has grown to a major event attracting more than a thousand people annually. This year, the Loch family will open its doors to the public for the 20th annual Loch's Maple Open House. Watch as 40 gallons of sap is boiled down into one gallon of deliciously sticky syrup, while enjoying demonstrations by traditional blacksmiths, candle makers, spinners, and quilters, along with sampling plenty of sweet maple treats.

4. 15th Annual Maple Weekend

15th Annual Maple Weekend

The Potter/Tioga Maple Producers Association has 17 maple farms and related sites for you to visit during the 15th Annual Maple Weekend. From classic hanging bucket methods to modern tubing and vacuum pump techniques, you'll get a true behind-the-scenes experience of the maple syrup making process. Be sure to pick up some of their maple-themed products, including classic syrups and candies, maple salad dressing, jellies, and popcorn, and not-to-miss maple milkshakes, bourbon, and lemonade!

5. Northwest Pennsylvania Maple Taste & Tour Weekend

Northwest Pennsylvania Maple Taste & Tour Weekend

Spend the weekend exploring the heart of maple producers in northwest Pennsylvania with the 16th annual Maple Taste & Tour Weekend. Take free tours of working maple syrup sugaring operations, sample a variety of maple goodies, and learn about the unique ways of producing maple syrup.

6. 2019 Maple Weekend Open House and Customer Appreciation Day

2019 Maple Weekend Open House and Customer Appreciation Day

Join the Miller family for pancakes and some free samples at Miller's Purely Maple, 2019 Maple Weekend Open House and Customer Appreciation Day. Using discarded wood from a nearby baseball bat maker to fire the evaporator, this tiny operation produces more than 1,000 gallons of syrup each year. Tours of the sugar house are available all weekend, along with a variety of maple goodies produced from the 2019 harvest.

7. Shaver's Creek Maple Harvest Festival

Shaver's Creek Maple Harvest Festival

Come celebrate the first harvest of 2019 with Shaver's Creek Maple Harvest Festival. Learn how to identify and tap sugar maple trees; watch costumed interpreters demonstrate sugaring techniques used by Native Americans, pioneers, and modern-day farmers; and of course, savor all-you-can-eat pancakes and fresh maple syrup.

8. Pennsylvania Maple Festival

Pennsylvania Maple Festival

Maple season festivities culminate with the 72nd annual Pennsylvania Maple Festival in "Maple City USA." The event is held across two weekends and features a variety of activities, including maple syrup production demonstrations, tea with Queen Maple, and tractor and farm equipment shows.

1. Scranton St. Patrick's Parade

Scranton St. Patrick's Parade

Feeling lucky? Then come celebrate the day when everyone is Irish at the Scranton St. Patrick's Parade. Held annually since 1962, the event boasts 12,000 participants and features bagpipes, string bands, floats, large balloons, and several Irish groups and societies.

2. Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade

Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Channel your inner leprechaun at the annual Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade. The streets of the city turn all shades of green with marching bands, decorated floats, music, and dance groups.

3. Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade

Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade

Honor Ireland's patron saint and celebrate Pittsburgh's Irish heritage at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The event features more than 20,000 participants, including marching units, bands, floats, and cheering parade goers.

4. Harrisburg St. Patrick's Day Parade

Harrisburg St. Patrick's Day Parade

Get ready to shamrock n' roll in the state capital at the Harrisburg St. Patrick's Day Parade. Come out and enjoy the day, which will be full of Irish dance groups, pipe and drum bands, festive floats, and marching bands.

1. PHS Philadelphia Flower Show

PHS Philadelphia Flower Show

The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show stretches across 10 acres and showcases the world's leading floral and garden designers as they celebrate the 2019 show's theme is "Flower Power." The entrance garden blends inspiration from the era of Flower Power and Pop Art movement innovators Roy Lichtenstein and Pennsylvania's own Andy Warhol. Their influential techniques will be used to reimagine traditional flower and garden imagery in unexpected ways. Drawing more than 250,000 attendees each year, the blockbuster show is the world's oldest and largest indoor event of its kind.

2. Charter Day

Charter Day

Charter Day marks the day England's King Charles II granted the land that is now Pennsylvania to founder William Penn, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania is ready to celebrate! Check out a rare exhibit of the original charter and documents related to the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. Admission will be free to the State Museum — including the Planetarium, the Curiosity Connection, and galleries — and several historic sites and museums along the Pennsylvania Trails of History; visit phmc.pa.gov for a complete list.

4. Lehigh Valley Auto Show

Vroom, vroom! Start your engines and hit the road to check out the Lehigh Valley Auto Show. The four-day automotive extravaganza features more than 110,000 square feet of the best cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans the world has to offer.

5. Central PA Outdoor & Sports Show

The Central PA Outdoor & Sports Show returns to the Clearfield County Fairgrounds and is the biggest event of its kind in the Pennsylvania Wilds! Plan to attend this weekend to experience everything for the outdoor and sport enthusiast. There will be exhibitors, live demonstrations, and events all weekend long.
